Nice Variety of sounds only bad thing is power
This thing is great for practicing with head phones. The wide variety of sounds make for a more authentic practice session (so when you're playing U2 songs you don't sound like ACDC and vice versa) and makes practicing more fun.
The only big downside is that it sucks down power like nobody's business. I bought four high-end AAA batteries and the Pod ate them in a about a week of playing for less than 2 hours a night. Furthermore the manual states that only non-rechargeable batteries (or the optional AC adapter) should be used. I now plan to buy the Line 6 DC1 which is line 6's 9 volt adapter from Amazon soon.
Another much smaller downside is that the real manual is only available in PDF format from Line 6's web site. But if you're at Amazon you probably have an internet connection.
While getting the manual you should probably also download Vyzex which is Line 6's software for editing the tones from the Pocket Pod. This software isn't absolutely necessary for using the Pocket pod but it does make editing tones somewhat easier and it also allows the use of download tones (which work somewhat like synthesizer patches.) I also think the software could be better designed.
Still I'm very pleased with the product. When you consider it's cost versus the cost of an amp head plus stomp boxes etc. the variety of amps and effects modeled and the fact that the Pocket Pod doesn't take up much space at all it's a great deal especially someone like me who practices in an apartment.

Pocket Pod rocks!
This thing is awesome. Great for practicing or playing out. For practice you can just plug your guitar into it and hear yourself with headphones with great effects. You can also plug in an mp3 player or Ipod to play along with any music. Used with an amp it offers adequate effects with uncomplicated settings. It's also a tuner. Make sure you buy a power supply with it or get a universal one as the batteries don't last very long if you're playing more than a set.

Portable powerful economical. Spring for the POD Pack
I am the Queen of portable and really drooled when I saw that Line 6 had come out with an itty-bitty tone box. After doing some research and scraping up a little extra cash I sprung for the complete POD pack (versus just the POD). I knew I was going to want the AC adapter so it really made sense to just pay the extra bucks and get all the little goodies. I love when things are packaged together and you can get extra stuff. THE ONLY THING MISSING WERE 4 AAA BATTERIES. I felt that the Line 6 folks should have thrown them in even though the AC adapter was included. That would have been good faith. I expected the batteries but they were not there.
I play a Steinberger Synapse SS-2F Electric Guitar Alpine White which in and of itself is about the smallest electric guitar you can buy. I also own the Line 6 PODxt (which has since been replaced) and thought that this little bugger would be a great complement to the larger Pod. They differ tremendously in construction: the Pocket Pod is made of plastic and the Pod XT is made of metal. But for a tiny little tone box the thing is amazing and flexible.
If you decide to purchase this Line 6 item expect fantastic support from the company. I actually had to return my Pod XT and they were fantastic. We worked over the phone to troubleshoot the issue but the thing really needed a workup. I had a fixed Pod very quickly. Line 6 is a great and very cool (musically oriented) company that values your business. I like their products and always keep an eye on the newest stuff.
With the Pocket Pod you will discover a lot of tones (and banks where you can store your own). The beauty of this little gem is that it's uniqueness is what you bring to it by creating and downloading new tones. The unit hooks up via USB to your computer and the POD Pack unit comes with a CD that has the editing software and Jam-along content. Yet ANOTHER reason to spring for the pack versus the POD alone. There is so much value-add that it just makes sense.
You really will be surprised at how small and powerful this little thing is. Line 6 has been on the cutting edge and they prove it once more by introducing a power-packed electronic item with such a small footprint. You have a bunch of pedals and amps in the palm of your hand! Cool.
I love it and I cannot wait to delve deeper into making my POD unique. I thought for a brief moment I would buy this little one and sell my POD XT but I do not think that is the case. Apples and oranges. Still I am going to love the portability of my new Pocket POD.
5 Stars for quality price point company and customer service!
